29 Injured After 6.0-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Indonesia; Authorities Warn of Potential Aftershocks

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, in the early hours of Sunday, resulting in 29 reported injuries, according to the country’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). Authorities confirmed that two of the injured individuals are in critical condition.

In an official statement, the agency said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers and was centered in the Poso region. Tremors were felt in several surrounding areas.

The quake caused structural damage, including the partial collapse of historical buildings, one of which was a church undergoing restoration. Emergency response and rescue teams are currently operating in affected areas to assess the extent of the damage and provide necessary assistance to those impacted.

Local authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, warning of the potential for aftershocks in the coming hours or days.

Indonesia is among the world’s most earthquake-prone countries, located within the Pacific Ring of Fire—a seismically active zone known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
