A massive volcanic eruption disrupts air navigation at an airport in Italy

The Italian volcano Mount Etna erupted today, Sunday, and caused the disruption of flights through Catania Airport, as a result of the accumulation of volcanic ash on the airport runways.
The Catania City Airport Authority said, “Air traffic at the airport has been suspended due to the danger of air navigation in these conditions, and to avoid any problems with takeoffs and landings that would endanger the lives of passengers.”
