After the War in Gaza Ends: UNRWA Reveals the Scale of the Disaster

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported on Friday that approximately 1.9 million people in Gaza have been displaced due to the year-long Israeli war on the territory. Many have been forced to live in temporary shelters, with the displacement crisis persisting as most homes in the area are either completely destroyed or uninhabitable. UNRWA emphasized that rebuilding infrastructure and restoring life in Gaza will take years.

According to the agency’s statement, around 660,000 children remain out of school due to the displacement crisis and the destruction of 88% of schools by Israeli airstrikes. The war has also resulted in the deaths of over 14,500 children, according to unofficial statistics.

UNRWA has initiated efforts to provide access to learning activities, recreational programs, and mental health support through 86 temporary educational spaces, serving over 18,000 children, including 300 children with disabilities.
