AI-Generated Images Surpass Real Images

Google and the Scandinavian publishing house “Bonnier News” conducted research showing that images produced using artificial intelligence (AI) applications have become more popular than real images, achieving higher click-through rates from internet users. In a joint statement, they mentioned that images generated with the “Bons AI” app significantly outperformed real images in advertisements, noting that AI-generated images demonstrated an impressive 100% improvement in the click-to-impression ratio compared to original images.

While Bonnier and Google do not advocate for using AI-generated images in news articles, their partnership follows the rapid adoption of AI by some news organizations.

It is worth mentioning that if publishing houses and media institutions expand the use of AI-generated images at the expense of real images, it could negatively impact the future of professional and amateur photographers. This comes at a time when “Getty Images,” which provides image services through the image storage service “iStock,” has agreed to a merger deal with “Shutterstock” worth $3.7 billion.
