Al-Sisi calls Al-Assad to comfort him

Today, Tuesday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi made a phone call to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, for the first time in years, to offer condolences for the earthquake victims.

Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, stated that President Sisi expressed, during the phone call, his sincere condolences for the victims of the devastating earthquake that occurred yesterday, and his wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.

Al-Sisi also affirmed, during the call, Egypt’s solidarity with Syria and its people in this painful calamity, indicating that he directed his government to provide all possible assistance and relief assistance in this regard to Syria.

It is also noteworthy that the total number of confirmed deaths in southeastern Turkey and Syria has risen to more than 5,000 as a result of the earthquake, which is the strongest in the region in nearly a century.

While the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 1,621 people were killed in Syria as a result of the earthquake.

The toll continues to rise, as a very large number of people are still under the rubble of the collapsed buildings.

While the World Health Organization expected the final outcome to be much greater than the announced non-final numbers.
