Alibaba employs artificial intelligence to read and analyze human emotions.

Alibaba is strengthening its position in the field of artificial intelligence through the launch of its new model, R1-Omni, which showcases advanced capabilities in reading emotions and analyzing the emotional state of individuals through video, as well as recognizing clothing and the surrounding environment. This model builds on the previous model, HumanOmni, developed by researcher Jiashing Chao. The new model reflects Alibaba’s interest in expanding the use of open-source AI technologies, as it has made the model freely available for download via the Hugging Face platform.
This announcement coincided with OpenAI’s release of its GPT-4.5 model, which demonstrates high precision in understanding subtle cues, though it requires a costly monthly subscription. Despite the fierce competition in this field, it seems that Alibaba is betting on a strategy of widespread adoption by offering tools for free to bolster its market share.
The company also underscores its commitment to innovation through its partnership with Apple to develop AI technologies on iPhone devices, alongside launching distinguished tools like DeepSeek. Eddie Wu, Alibaba’s CEO, stated that achieving artificial general intelligence is the company’s primary goal. With this, Alibaba aims to be at the forefront of leading companies by offering advanced technologies that compete with the biggest names in the industry.
