America will pay dearly

China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Thursday that the United States is at risk of paying an “unbearable price” for its actions over Taiwan.
“By encouraging Taiwan independence forces, the United States not only puts Taiwan in a very dangerous situation, but also exposes itself to an unbearable price,” Wang Yi said in an interview with state media.

“Taiwan has no other way forward than reunification with mainland China,” the Chinese foreign minister stressed.

It is noteworthy that China says it rules Taiwan democratically as part of its territory, and in the past two years, China has intensified military and diplomatic pressure to assert its claim to sovereignty over Taiwan, which has fueled Taiwan’s anger and Washington’s anxiety.

Taiwan topped the scene as a major factor in the strained relations between China and the United States, which is the most important international supporter and supplier of arms to Taiwan despite the absence of formal diplomatic relations.

For its part, Taiwan has repeatedly stressed that it is an independent country committed to defending its freedom and democracy, while China has always described the Taiwan issue as the most sensitive issue in its relations with the United States.
The United States has long maintained a policy of “strategic ambiguity” about whether to intervene militarily to protect Taiwan in the event of a Chinese attack.
