American Businessman Avoids Global Market Losses Thanks to Investment Strategies

After U.S. President Donald Trump declared “Liberation Day” last Wednesday, global markets experienced significant losses, impacting many prominent figures. However, American billionaire Warren Buffett, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, managed to avoid these losses thanks to his investment strategies.
Buffett, 95, demonstrated foresight when his company sold $134 billion worth of shares in 2024, during the peak of the stock market. He had long expressed concern about overinflated valuations, which led him to avoid major acquisitions due to a lack of suitable opportunities.
Last year, Berkshire Hathaway reduced its stake in Apple by two-thirds, a move that helped the company avoid the impact of tariffs imposed by Trump. The company also sold shares in Bank of America and Citigroup, both of which have dropped in value by 22% so far. Despite market turmoil, Berkshire shares rose by 9%, boosting Buffett’s personal wealth by $12.7 billion, bringing his total net worth to $155 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index—ranking him sixth in the world.
Meanwhile, the tariffs imposed by Trump on imported goods caused heavy losses for the world’s three richest men. Elon Musk lost $30.9 billion, Jeff Bezos lost $23.49 billion, and Mark Zuckerberg saw a drop of $27.34 billion. Bloomberg’s index also recorded the largest two-day loss among the world’s 500 richest individuals.
