American officers reveal Washington’s diplomatic role in the agreement between SDF and Damascus, following renewed discussions on a potential withdrawal

American officers confirmed that their country’s military is playing a diplomatic role behind the scenes in Syria, highlighting its involvement in mediating between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to achieve stability and prevent the return of civil conflict.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the American mediation aims to strengthen Washington’s role in shaping Syria’s future. The officers also mentioned that the threat of a U.S. withdrawal from Syria has increased pressure on the SDF, making an agreement between the Kurds and Damascus more urgent.

A Pentagon official told Reuters that there are no signs of an imminent U.S. troop withdrawal, but the issue has once again become a focus since President Donald Trump took office.

The Syrian presidency announced the signing of an agreement with the SDF on March 10, confirming the integration of the SDF into the institutions of the Syrian Arab Republic and reiterating the country’s territorial integrity.
