Wall Street Journal: Washington Sends 5,000 Troops as an Amphibious Force to the Middle East
The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials, reported that the United States is deploying an amphibious force on high alert, alongside a Marine reconnaissance unit, to the Middle East.
The newspaper added that U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Higgsith approved a request from U.S. Central Command to form a high-readiness amphibious group with an accompanying naval reconnaissance unit. This force typically consists of several ships and approximately 5,000 Marines.
The Wall Street Journal noted that part of these forces and naval assets have already arrived in the region, according to the U.S. officials cited.
