Araghchi on War Warning, Agreement Conditions, and Accusing Washington
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that dragging the war into the Gulf region constitutes a strategic mistake aimed at expanding the conflict throughout the entire area.
During a press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the presence of ambassadors and journalists, Araghchi emphasized that Iran’s response is an act of self-defense, a legitimate right under international law, noting that the Israeli attack on nuclear facilities crossed international red lines. He confirmed that Iran is prepared for any agreement ensuring the peaceful nature of its nuclear program but rejects any deal that undermines its rights.
Araghchi pointed out that the United States bears responsibility for its involvement in Israeli attacks, revealing that five indirect negotiation rounds have taken place with Washington, and that a sixth round was expected to include an Iranian proposal. He added that Iran possesses documents proving support from U.S. bases in the region for Israeli attacks, stressing that Iran did not seek war but was compelled into it, and that a cessation of aggression would be met with a cessation of Iranian responses.
He warned that any military escalation in the Gulf could ignite regional and global tensions, describing the targeting of Asaluyeh as a strategic error that could drag the Gulf into war. He noted that Iran’s retaliation included targeting economic sites and cautioned that ongoing tensions threaten the security and stability of the region.
