Armed Clash in Southeastern Iran Leaves Four Dead, Including Three Police Officers
Four individuals, including three police officers, were killed in an armed clash on Friday between Iranian security forces and an armed group in the city of Chabahar, located in Sistan and Baluchestan Province in southeastern Iran.
According to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency, the confrontation broke out during a security operation in the area. One member of the armed group was killed and another injured. Three police officers also lost their lives, and a police officer was wounded. Additionally, four other security personnel sustained injuries.
Ongoing Pursuit of Armed Individuals
In a statement released by Iran’s Law Enforcement Command, individuals described as “terrorist elements” fled the scene, prompting continued pursuit operations by security forces.
The statement indicated that the situation in the area has since been stabilized and is under full control of the security authorities. No further details were provided regarding the identities or affiliations of the assailants.
Security Context in the Region
The incident comes just days after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Base announced the killing and arrest of six individuals suspected of belonging to an armed cell during a separate security operation in the same city.
According to the IRGC’s earlier statement, the group was allegedly planning to carry out attacks in densely populated areas. The operation, which led to the disruption of the alleged plot, was attributed to cooperation from local residents and intelligence efforts by the province’s Salman Corps.
Sistan and Baluchestan Province
Sistan and Baluchestan remains one of Iran’s most security-sensitive provinces, frequently witnessing clashes between security forces and armed groups. Some of these groups have been accused of links to separatist or extremist organizations operating near the borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Iranian authorities have reiterated their commitment to counter-terrorism efforts and enhancing stability in the region. Meanwhile, local and international human rights organizations continue to call for addressing the broader security and socioeconomic conditions affecting the province’s predominantly Baluch population.
