As Part of Its Reform and Recovery Efforts, World Bank Reaffirms Support for Syria in Key Sectors
The World Bank’s Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, Ousmane Dione, announced the bank’s readiness to support Syria in the fields of energy and digital technology, emphasizing the importance of this assistance for the country’s recovery and reform efforts.
In a post on the platform X, Dione mentioned that he held fruitful meetings during the World Bank’s Spring Meetings with Syrian Finance Minister Mohammad Yasar Barniyeh and Central Bank Governor Abdelkader Hossariyah. It marked their first participation in over a decade. The discussions focused on Syria’s economic priorities during the recovery and reform phase.
He added that the World Bank is ready to provide the necessary support to Syria in strategic areas, particularly energy and digital technology.
Strengthening Cooperation with International Institutions
Finance Minister Mohammad Yasar Barniyeh recently stated that Syria’s participation in meetings with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank aims to revive cooperation with international financial institutions, open channels for technical support, and strengthen economic capacities.
