US President Joe Biden evades his condemnation of the Israeli forces’ attack on the funeral of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, in occupied Jerusalem.
Biden evaded one of the journalists who asked him if he would condemn the Israeli forces’ assault and beating of the participants in the funeral of Shireen Abu Akleh,
The US President stated, “I do not know the full details of what happened during the funeral of Shireen Abu Akleh, but an investigation must be opened into the matter.”
This came despite the fact that White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, before the press conference, that the US administration was “deeply disturbed” by the scenes of violence committed by Israeli forces during Abu Akleh’s funeral.
And earlier, United Nations spokesman Farhan Haq said, on Friday, that the organization had seen a “shocking” video clip showing violence during the funeral of Al-Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Aqleh in Jerusalem.
“We just saw the video showing that, and it’s very shocking to us,” Haq told reporters in a statement. He added that the organization calls on the Israeli government to protect freedom of peaceful assembly.
The video also showed violence that erupted during Abu Aqila’s funeral in Jerusalem when the Israeli police attacked the crowd carrying her coffin outside the hospital, and Haq said the United Nations would try to gather more information about the incident.
