Breaking | First Comment from the Syrian Foreign Ministry on U.S. Move Regarding Syrian Diplomats in New York

Qatari news channel Al Jazeera quoted a source in the Syrian Foreign Ministry as saying that the U.S. government’s decision to change the legal status of the Syrian diplomatic mission in New York does not reflect a shift in Washington’s stance toward the Syrian government. The source described the move as merely an administrative and technical procedure.

The United States informed the Syrian mission in New York—via a memorandum delivered through the United Nations—that its legal status had been changed from that of a permanent mission representing a UN member state to a mission representing a government not recognized by the U.S.
