Cyprus: Greek F-16 Jets Intercept Missile Threat to British Bases from Lebanon

Cyprus’ Foreign Minister, Constantinos Kombos, confirmed that the drones carrying explosives which targeted British bases in Cyprus were launched from Lebanon. The minister noted that recent developments shift focus to the Lebanese front, adding that no possibility can be ruled out.

A Cypriot government source said the airspace over Larnaca Airport was temporarily closed, while Greek F-16 jets stationed on the island took off to intercept the threat. A government spokesperson clarified that the attack was directed at the British bases in Akrotiri, not at Cyprus itself.

A Cypriot source told Reuters that all indications point to the drones targeting the bases being launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon. Officials noted that the drones were of Iranian origin.
