Cairo – Washington: Two statements from the foreign ministries regarding the meeting between Rubio and Abdel Aty and discussions on Gaza, Syria, and Sudan

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, in Washington to discuss the latest developments in Gaza, Syria, and Sudan, as well as bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
According to a statement from the U.S. Department of State, Rubio expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s efforts to secure the release of hostages in Gaza, deliver humanitarian aid, and facilitate medical evacuations. He also emphasized the importance of coordination regarding post-conflict arrangements in the sector, stressing that “Hamas cannot rule Gaza or threaten Israel again.”
The statement further noted that the two sides discussed developments in Syria, focusing on the need for “inclusive governance” and preventing the use of Syrian territory as a base for any activities that threaten regional stability. The meeting also touched on the situation in Sudan, where the two ministers discussed ways to pressure the warring parties to end the conflict and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.
For its part, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a separate statement, stressed Egypt’s position against any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians. It also highlighted the necessity of initiating reconstruction efforts in Gaza with the participation of its residents and support from the international community.
