China Tests 6G Networks with Record-Breaking Speed of 280 Gbps
In a major leap forward in the global race for sixth-generation mobile networks, Chinese telecom giant China Mobile has successfully conducted a limited field test of 6G technology. During the trial, the company managed to download a 50GB file in just 1.5 seconds, showcasing an impressive data transfer speed of 280 gigabits per second (Gbps).
According to technical reports, the test was carried out using a pilot 6G network consisting of 10 sites, making it the first of its kind on a global scale. The results clearly highlight the superiority of 6G networks over existing 5G infrastructure in terms of speed, latency, and data transmission efficiency.
As part of this trial, China also launched a low-Earth orbit satellite at an altitude of under 500 kilometers to enhance connectivity, reduce latency, and enable ultra-fast data transmission — paving the way for satellite-assisted 6G networks.
To put this in perspective, the reported speed would theoretically allow users to download a full 4K BluRay movie in less than two seconds, essentially matching the performance of a high-speed fiber-optic cable.
While most experts predict that 6G technology won’t be commercially available until between 2028 and 2030, China appears to be on the fast track to leading the global 6G race.
