Damascus Marathon 2025 Kicks Off with 2,500 Runners on World Tourism Day
A Major Sporting Event in the Heart of Syria
The first-ever Damascus Marathon 2025 was held on Friday with the participation of around 2,500 runners from different Arab and foreign countries. The race, organized to mark World Tourism Day, took participants through the most iconic landmarks of the Syrian capital, from the Old Exhibition City to Umayyad Square and Tishreen Park.
Four Race Categories for All Levels
The Damascus Marathon 2025 featured four different races designed to suit professional athletes and amateur runners alike:
Full Marathon: 42 km for professional long-distance runners.
Half Marathon: 21 km for experienced athletes.
10 km Race: for intermediate runners.
5 km Race: a community run for families, youth, and people with disabilities.
Festive Atmosphere and Cultural Heritage
Runners passed through historic landmarks such as Umayyad Square, Victoria Bridge, and Al-Marjeh Square, showcasing the cultural richness of Damascus and its vibrant social fabric. Many participants expressed joy in joining the Damascus Marathon 2025, noting that it highlighted Syria’s ability to host international sporting and tourism events.
Closing Ceremony and Winners Honored
The marathon concluded with a colorful closing ceremony featuring artistic and sports performances, followed by the recognition of the top winners in each of the four races.
The event was organized by Capital Company in cooperation with the Syrian Ministries of Tourism, Sports, Youth, Media, Social Affairs and Labor, along with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the Junior Chamber International in Damascus.
