Danielle Spencer, Star of “What’s Happening!!,” Dies at 60
American actress Danielle Spencer, best known for her role as Dee Thomas in the classic 1970s sitcom What’s Happening!!, has passed away at the age of 60 following complications related to cancer.
The news of her passing was confirmed by Haywood Nelson, her former co-star and longtime friend, who portrayed the character Dwayne in the same series. According to Nelson, Spencer died at a hospital in Richmond, Virginia, surrounded by family members, including her mother Cheryl and her brother Jeremy Pelt, a well-known jazz musician.
Nelson described Spencer as “like a little sister” to him, noting that he had spoken with her just two weeks prior and that she remained optimistic despite her health condition. He also recalled that she had previously suffered severe injuries in a car accident, which led her to use a wheelchair for several years.
