Discovering an additional risk of smoking linked to serious diseases

A recent study prepared by German Carrasquilla, an epidemiologist and assistant professor at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, revealed the discovery of a new negative effect of smoking on the health of the human body, represented by an increase in a type of body fat linked to serious diseases.

The study indicates that spending a lifetime smoking cigarettes is linked to an increase in abdominal fat, meaning that the increase is concentrated in the invisible visceral fat that surrounds the organs inside the abdomen, which may lead to inflammation and chronic diseases.

According to the study, the location of fat and the way it interacts with body functions makes it dangerous, and this type of fat is strongly linked to heart disease and diabetes.
