Abdelatty said, in remarks carried by Egyptian media, that Egyptian-Syrian relations are based on a historical bond between the two peoples, noting that Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani had previously visited Cairo, while he intends to make a visit to Damascus in the coming period.
Growing economic and trade cooperation
Abdelatty added that Egyptian economic and trade delegations have visited Syria, indicating growing cooperation between the two countries, stressing that Cairo views Syria’s security and stability as an Egyptian and Arab interest.
He said that developments in Syria are moving “in the right direction,” with Cairo continuing to support the country’s stability and the welfare of the Syrian people.
Egypt’s position on the political process and counter-terrorism
Abdelatty explained that Egypt conveys to the Syrian side, when needed, its views on a number of files, foremost among them the need for the political process to be based on inclusivity and not to exclude any party, along with countering terrorism and ensuring that Syrian territory does not become a source of threat to the region’s countries.

Egypt’s support for Iraq and state monopoly on weapons
Regarding Iraq, Abdelatty affirmed that Cairo supports the country’s stability, the rule of state authority, and the strengthening of its institutions, noting that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had communicated with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi following his election and offered congratulations.
He added that Egyptian-Iraqi communications are ongoing, explaining that weekly contacts are held with Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, stressing that Cairo supports the Iraqi government’s push for a state monopoly on weapons.
Abdelatty emphasized that Egypt’s position on this issue is not limited to Iraq, but extends to other Arab countries, including Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, and Libya, considering that the sustainability of security and stability requires a strong national state and official institutions capable of imposing their authority.
