Egyptian Judiciary Issues Rigorous Imprisonment Sentence Against Israelis in Taba Case
An Egyptian court has sentenced two Israeli citizens from the Arab 48 community to five years of rigorous imprisonment after finding them guilty of assaulting three hotel workers and damaging property at a hotel in Taba, South Sinai.
The incident occurred on August 30, 2024, when the defendants requested large quantities of alcoholic beverages for themselves and their relatives at the Movenpick Taba Hotel. They then refused to pay, falsely claiming that their hotel reservation included all drinks under an all-inclusive plan.
When hotel staff asked them to pay the bill, the situation escalated into a physical altercation. According to security investigations, the two men used a wooden stick, a metal object made of aluminum, and glass bottles to assault the workers, causing them serious injuries.
The altercation resulted in the destruction of several glass doors, drinkware, and chairs. The total damages were estimated at 35,000 Egyptian pounds. Tourism police in Taba responded promptly, and the injured were taken to Taba Central Hospital for medical care.
Following their arrest, the suspects confessed in detail, admitting the assault stemmed from a dispute over the bill. A formal report was filed under No. 511 of 2024 at the Taba police station, and the suspects were referred to trial by the prosecution.
