Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The Path is Clear, and the Goal of the Security Council Proposal Regarding Gaza Developments is the Establishment of a Palestinian State

Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel-Aty, called on the United Nations Security Council to take steps to establish an international presence in Gaza and the West Bank, aiming to pave the way for the creation of a Palestinian state on the ground.

Abdel-Aty explained that the goal of this step is to deploy international peacekeeping forces to protect Palestinians and ensure Israel’s security, within a set timeline that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The Egyptian Minister added that these forces would contribute to cementing a ceasefire, managing the early recovery phase, and rebuilding, as well as enabling the Palestinian Authority to regain control over Gaza and manage its affairs.

In turn, Dr. Ayman Samir, Professor of International Relations, noted that the Egyptian effort seeks to lay a solid foundation and clear path for the establishment of a Palestinian state, something that has not existed before. Samir added that the proposal might receive wide international support, except from Israel, which rejects any international presence in the sector.

In a related context, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a joint training program between Egypt and Jordan for Palestinian police forces, in preparation for their deployment in Gaza to ensure the stability of the security situation there.
