Potential Energy Corridor with Saudi Arabia to Facilitate Energy Supplies in the Middle East

Israeli Energy Minister Elie Cohen revealed plans for a potential energy corridor linking Saudi Arabia and Israel, as part of possible normalization talks between the two countries. The corridor would avoid transit through Iran or the Suez Canal, potentially reducing transport costs and improving energy supply efficiency across the Middle East.

Cohen noted that the project would allow Saudi Arabia faster access to European energy markets, while enhancing Israel’s position as a regional energy hub. He also highlighted significant progress in Israel’s renewable energy sector, aiming to generate 30% of electricity from green sources by 2030, with plans to expand solar installations in the Jordan Valley and to install 100,000 solar rooftops on residential buildings, sports facilities, and other structures.

Regarding the gas sector, Cohen described it as a strategic resource generating billions of dollars annually, with reserves sufficient for three decades. He noted that exporting gas to Egypt and Jordan not only supports regional stability and the Israeli shekel, but also contributes to building a sovereign wealth fund for future generations.
