European Union rejects military involvement in the Strait of Hormuz after Trump’s call

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said that EU foreign ministers rejected sending warships to the Strait of Hormuz amid the dispute with Iran, emphasizing that the European Union will not participate in the conflict.

Kallas added during a press conference in Brussels following the ministers’ meeting that the **Aspides** mission is operating in the Red Sea, but ministers showed no willingness to expand its mandate to the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. President Donald Trump had called countries reliant on Strait of Hormuz shipments to deploy their vessels to escort commercial shipping and ensure maritime security in the region.

Trump also warned NATO members of “bad consequences” if they fail to provide support to the United States in the Middle East, according to official statements.
