Brazil’s Finance Minister, Fernando Haddad, stated on Tuesday that a phone call between Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and U.S. President Donald Trump would require guarantees to prevent a repeat of what he described as the “embarrassing” situation faced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his meeting with Trump at the White House.

In an interview with CNN Brazil, Haddad emphasized that the Brazilian government is seeking to bring negotiations over U.S. tariffs on Brazilian exports back to a rational path, amid escalating trade tensions between the two countries. He pointed out that Zelensky had faced sharp criticism from Trump and his Vice President, J.D. Vance, a situation that Brazil aims to avoid in any future official communications.
