First Woman Appointed in the New Syrian Administration

The Syrian interim government’s Department of Political Affairs announced today, Friday, the appointment of Aisha Al-Dabbas as head of the Women’s Affairs Office, making her the first woman to hold an official position in the new Syrian administration.

The administration shared a photo of Al-Dabbas on its social media platforms, accompanied by a contact number for the Women’s Affairs Office. This office aims to promote Syrian women’s roles in legal, social, cultural, and political spheres.  

This appointment comes amid controversy sparked by statements from the administration’s official spokesperson, Ubaida Arnaout, regarding the role of women in society and their alleged unsuitability for high-level positions, such as Minister of Defense.
