Former Arab head of state sentenced to prison

Former Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz has been sentenced to five years in prison for money laundering and “illicit enrichment”.
Abdelaziz ruled Mauritania for ten years and was an ally of the United States.
His trial has been ongoing since January, when he denied corruption charges.
However, the court convicted Abdelaziz of two out of ten charges after investigating accusations of embezzlement of public funds and corruption.
