France to Recognize the State of Palestine: Macron Announces Timeline and Explains Motives

In an interview with France 5, French President Emmanuel Macron sharply criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Macron stated that Israel’s bombardment of Gaza does not ensure long-term security for Israelis, but rather misleads them with unrealistic security claims. He emphasized that Netanyahu’s strategy has not been effective for the past 15 years and that a political solution is necessary.
Macron highlighted deep disagreements with Netanyahu, particularly concerning humanitarian and strategic issues. He explained that France’s role is to stand for humanity and work toward collective security in the region. He also stressed that some of Netanyahu’s actions are inconsistent with international law, describing some as crimes.
The French President further announced his intention to recognize the State of Palestine this coming June. He described this recognition as essential to initiating a collective dynamic that promotes mutual recognition between Palestinians and Israelis, and as a reflection of France’s commitment to supporting long-ignored Palestinian aspirations.
Macron’s remarks come amid escalating tensions in Gaza, underlining the urgent need for sustainable political solutions rather than reliance on military force.
