From Rafah to Mount Hermon: Israeli Official Reveals Conditions for Ending the War

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich outlined the conditions for ending the war, addressing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a speech on Memorial Day.

Smotrich stated that the battle would not end until Syria is dismantled, Hezbollah is severely weakened, the Iranian nuclear threat is eliminated, and the Gaza Strip is cleared of the Hamas movement.

Palestinian Displacement

He also added that among the conditions is the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Gaza residents to other countries, the return of living Israeli hostages to their homes, and the recovery of the bodies of the dead. He stressed that Israel would emerge from this phase stronger and more prosperous.

Smotrich emphasized that Israel is approaching decisive moments, noting that these are not merely government goals but visions widely supported by the public and representing the legacy of thousands of Israeli fighters.

Internal Debates

Regarding internal discussions, he said debates will continue over political plans, conscription issues, identity, and economic matters. However, he pointed out that when it comes to war against external threats, there should be no disagreement.

Smotrich’s Message to Netanyahu

At the end of his speech, Smotrich addressed Netanyahu, saying: “Mr. Prime Minister, this is a historic moment that requires decisive decisions,” adding, “The government of Israel and its people stand with you and support you in making the decision that guarantees security. Neither you nor we have the mandate to waste this opportunity.”

From Rafah to Mount Hermon

For his part, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed that the army would continue fighting “from Rafah to Mount Hermon until victory is achieved,” as he put it.

In a speech commemorating fallen Israeli soldiers, he said: “We will achieve a decisive victory,” claiming that Israel’s survival is tied to the sacrifices of its fighters.
