Pope Leo XIV warns of “catastrophic collapse” of humanity’s future

Future of humanity: Pope adopts firm tone on justice, anti-corruption, and human rights
Pope Leo XIV warned that the future of humanity is threatened by “catastrophic collapse” due to ongoing wars and the collapse of international law, in a speech delivered in Equatorial Guinea as part of his African tour covering four countries.
The Pope denounced what he called the “colonization” of the earth’s resources, including oil and minerals, saying it fuels deadly conflicts, and noted that modern technologies are used primarily for war purposes.

He affirmed that “peoples are hungry and thirsty for justice in a world wounded by tyranny,” calling for appreciation of those who believe in peace. Since the start of his tour on April 13, the Pope has adopted a firmer tone on social justice, anti-corruption, and respect for human rights.
The Pope said that without a change in political responsibility and respect for institutions and international agreements, the fate of humanity is tragically at risk.
