Germany leads the European Union in the number of asylum applications

According to the report of the European Directorate, Germany still ranks first among the countries of the European Union in terms of the number of asylum applications.
The newspaper quoted the report of the European Directorate for Supporting Asylum Claims, that in the first half of this year, 19,808 asylum applications were submitted to European Union countries, as well as Norway and Switzerland. Meanwhile, 47,231 applications were registered in Germany. From the report, it is clear that 36% of asylum seekers are from Syria, 18% are Afghans and 6.6% are from Iraq.
In second place in terms of the number of applications, according to the newspaper, comes France (32,212), followed by Spain (25,823) and then Italy (20,620). At the bottom of the list are Hungary (19), Estonia (30) and Latvia (58).
Earlier, German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer expressed concern about the current immigration situation against the background of the increase in the number of migrants arriving in Germany via the Balkan route.
The Minister also noted that, before that, the German population had always been tolerant of the refugee situation on the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany. Previously, there was talk of accepting only 200,000 people per year. But when the number of requests became too great, social and political problems arose in the country.
The minister noted that more than 102,500 immigrants applied for asylum in Germany last year.
