Hamas in Syria? Israel Implements Tight Security Measures to Monitor Potential Threats
Israel has warned about the increasing activity of the Hamas movement abroad, particularly in Syria, according to Israeli security sources reported by Israel Hayom.
According to the report, Israeli officials stated that the new Syrian government had released several leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad who were previously held in Syrian prisons during President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. The officials added that some of these leaders had threatened to carry out operations against Israel.
In response to these developments, the Israeli army has heightened its security measures in the region, establishing a special security zone east of the Golan Heights. The zone stretches 80 kilometers in length and 18 kilometers in width, containing nine major military sites, including a central site on Mount Sheikh, aimed at mitigating any potential threats from Syria.
The Israeli official confirmed that the army will not withdraw from this area in the near future, emphasizing that “the situation that existed before October 7 will not return.”
It is important to note that the available information regarding Hamas’ presence in Syria is limited to media reports and Israeli security sources, with no official statements from the Syrian government or Hamas leadership regarding the matter.
