Hamas: Netanyahu Prioritizes His Government Over Prisoners, and We Have No Ambition to Govern Gaza

Hamas stated that it has no ambition to govern Gaza and does not seek to do so, emphasizing that any arrangements regarding Gaza’s administration should be based on national consensus. The remarks were made by Hamas spokesperson Abdel Latif al-Qanoua during a press conference on Saturday evening, where he stressed that the movement is not interested in being part of any agreed-upon arrangements for governing the Strip.
Al-Qanoua reaffirmed Hamas’ position by highlighting its approval of the formation of a “Community Support Committee” in Gaza, which does not include Hamas, underscoring the movement’s commitment to national consensus.
He also stated that Hamas is engaging with mediators regarding a proposal by U.S. envoy Steve Weintzoff, along with other ideas, and that talks have not stopped in an effort to finalize a ceasefire agreement.
Meanwhile, Hamas reiterated its accusation that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the main obstacle to the agreement, stating that its implementation depends on his stance, as he “places the survival of his government above the agreement and the lives of prisoners.”
Hamas also called on Washington to avoid becoming a party to the conflict and to exert pressure on Israel to return to implementing the agreement.
