Hana El Zahed Survives Near-Drowning Incident During Filming of “El Shater”
Egyptian actress Hana El Zahed has revealed that she narrowly escaped a life-threatening accident while shooting an underwater scene for her upcoming film El Shater. In an interview with the television program Tafa’olkum, El Zahed explained that she actually began to drown during the shoot due to the physical demands of the scene.
“The scene required me to float underwater, so metal weights were attached to my body to keep me in place,” she said. “As a result, I started sinking for real.”
Hana El Zahed added: “People thought I was performing the scene smoothly, but in reality, I was drowning. The metal was extremely heavy, and I couldn’t swim to the surface on my own. I genuinely felt like I was dying.”
Panic on Set During Underwater Scene
The actress described the moment as terrifying, a sentiment echoed by co-star Mostafa Gharib, who commented, “We were all afraid of that scene—except for Amir Karara, who was the only one who wasn’t.”
Actor Amir Karara, who also stars in the film, clarified that professional divers were present on set to ensure safety. However, he noted that El Zahed’s fear was understandable due to the heavy metal equipment and the difficulty of controlling movement underwater.
