Lebanon: Disputes Over Army Plan May Affect Hezbollah Cooperation in South Litani
Al-Manar TV, citing sources, reported that the Lebanese government’s firm stance on disarmament could affect Hezbollah’s level of cooperation in South Litani, as well as the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The channel indicated that the upcoming cabinet session to discuss the army’s weapons containment plan remains contentious, amid ongoing contacts and meetings aimed at finding a political solution to the crisis.
Al-Manar added that the meeting between President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam did not yield any solutions, highlighting differences in approaches to the weapons file. According to the channel, Aoun warned of the risks of taking executive steps without internal consensus.
Divergences and Potential Escalation
The report noted that Salam insists on pursuing his approach, which some sources consider potentially risky for the country’s stability. Meanwhile, the Shia “March 8” alliance, comprising Hezbollah and the Amal Movement, has not announced whether it will participate in the session, with warnings that the coming days could be a pivotal period in the political crisis.
