Hezbollah’s Weapons: Between Internal Dialogue as the Only Solution and Challenging External Pressures
A senior official in Lebanese Hezbollah announced that the group is willing to discuss the future of its weapons with Lebanese President Michel Aoun, provided that Israel withdraws from southern Lebanon and halts its continuous airstrikes. The official noted that the group is open to talks under clear conditions, a step that could pave the way for the eventual abandonment of its weapons.
These statements come amid increasing Israeli pressure through airstrikes, despite a ceasefire being in place since November 2024, alongside the continued U.S. demand for Hezbollah’s disarmament. This is occurring as Washington prepares to enter nuclear talks with Iran, Hezbollah’s main regional backer.
Lebanese President Michel Aoun had earlier emphasized that discussions on Hezbollah’s military capabilities should take place through national Lebanese dialogue, noting the imminent launch of efforts to draft a national security strategy, which will lead to a national defense strategy.
