Hochstein Arrives in Beirut to Chair Ceasefire Monitoring Committee Meeting with Israel
According to Sky News Arabia, Amos Hochstein, the U.S. Special Envoy, will arrive in Beirut next Monday. On Tuesday, he will chair a meeting of the Ceasefire Monitoring Committee between Lebanon and Israel, in his role as the civilian head of the committee.
The meeting aims to monitor the parties’ adherence to the terms of the ceasefire agreement and to ensure the stability of the situation in the region.
The agreement, brokered by French and U.S. officials, stipulates the gradual withdrawal of the Israeli army from Lebanon within 60 days, along with Hezbollah’s retreat from southern Lebanon to areas north of the Litani River.
The ceasefire agreement came into effect on November 27, ending hostilities that had lasted for more than a year, including a two-month full-scale war between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran.
