Important European Decision on Sanctions Against Russia

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, announced that EU foreign ministers have finally reached a unified agreement regarding the European sanctions imposed on Russia.

The EU member states have agreed to extend the economic sanctions on Moscow after Hungary approved the step, which had been delayed due to a lack of full consensus. Kallas stated that these sanctions will continue to deprive Russia of the revenues it uses to fund its war on Ukraine.

Since the imposition of European economic sanctions on Moscow, the EU has been required to extend them every six months, contingent on the unanimous agreement of all 27 member states. Hungary’s Prime Minister had previously delayed the decision, citing a desire to wait until U.S. President Donald Trump was inaugurated.
