In Response to Zelensky’s Ambiguity, Putin Showcases Russia’s Power to End Ukraine Conflict
Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted on Sunday that his country possesses the strength and means to bring the conflict in Ukraine to a “logical” end.
His statement followed a Kremlin announcement on Saturday expressing anticipation for a “decisive” response from Ukraine regarding Putin’s offer of a three-day ceasefire, describing Kyiv’s stance as “ambiguous” and a “historic mistake.”
Earlier last week, Putin had proposed a ceasefire from May 8 to 10 in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Germany in World War II.
However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the idea of a short truce, emphasizing that Kyiv is ready for a comprehensive ceasefire.
Zelensky added that he and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed that a 30-day ceasefire between Kyiv and Moscow would be “the right first step toward peace” in Ukraine.
While Putin reaffirmed Russia’s capability to end the war, Zelensky responded in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, stating, “Russia calls for a ceasefire on May 9 but continues bombing Ukrainian territory daily.”
He noted that Russian forces launched 165 drones overnight, targeting residential areas in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Mykolaiv.
