Iran and Israel: Russia Highlights the Importance of Joint Economic Projects to Support Regional Stability
Russian officials said any crises in the region should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy, emphasizing efforts to reduce tensions and prevent potential escalation between Iran and the West.
The Kremlin stated that President Vladimir Putin held phone calls with Iranian President Masoud Bezhikian and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, presenting approaches to enhance stability in the Middle East and stressing the importance of implementing political and diplomatic measures to ensure regional security. The statement noted that both sides agreed to continue dialogue and maintain open communication channels.
Strengthening Economic Partnerships
Later, Putin received a call from Bezhikian discussing Iranian efforts to normalize the situation. Both Russian and Iranian officials emphasized a unified position to support reducing tensions around Iran and the region, stressing that issues should be resolved exclusively through political and diplomatic means and highlighting the implementation of joint economic projects.
The Iranian File in the Context of International Peace and Security
Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, said any external intervention to change Iran’s constitutional system would constitute a violation of international law. He emphasized that the UN Security Council should address the Iranian file from the perspective of international peace and security, rather than from Iran’s domestic political situation.
Support for All Middle Eastern Countries
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov previously stated that Russia provides support to all Middle Eastern countries, emphasizing the importance of achieving regional stability and reducing sources of tension. He explained that Russian diplomacy aims to act as a mediator between Tehran and Tel Aviv, and possibly between Tehran and Washington, noting that military solutions alone will not achieve regional security, which can only be realized through dialogue and mutual understanding.
