Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani, stated that Iran is ready to provide energy assistance to Lebanon, but so far his country has not received any official request in this regard.
Kanaani explained, today, Monday: “We want to improve the Lebanese economic situation, and we want to help improve the Lebanese economic situation, and this matter is related to the Lebanese government.”
He also continued: “If the Lebanese government submitted a request to provide fuel to Lebanon, Iran is ready to study it and help in that.”
Lebanon has been reeling under the weight of one of the worst financial meltdowns in the world since 2019, when the economy collapsed under the weight of huge public debt caused by decades of corruption, waste of resources and an unsustainable method of financing.
Depositors’ hard currency balances have been largely frozen since then, and the Lebanese currency has lost more than 90 percent of its value.
