Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian Reportedly Injured in Israeli Strike Targeting Security Meeting in Tehran
Tehran – July 13, 2025 – Iran’s Fars News Agency reported on Sunday that President Masoud Pezeshkian sustained a leg injury as a result of an Israeli airstrike targeting a meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. The meeting was reportedly held in the lower floors of a government building in western Tehran on June 16, during what has become known as the 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel.
According to Fars, the strike involved six explosives aimed at both the main entrance and exit of the building, allegedly in an attempt to block evacuation routes. The report further claimed that the method of attack resembled a previous attempt on the life of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, which occurred in Beirut’s southern suburb of Haret Hreik.
Rising Tensions Between Iran and Israel
The escalation began on June 13, when Israel launched a series of air raids on Iranian territory. The attacks targeted military facilities and nuclear infrastructure, as well as senior military personnel and nuclear scientists, according to regional reports.
In response, Iran launched drone and missile strikes on targets within Israel. The exchange prompted U.S. military intervention, with American forces conducting airstrikes on June 22 against the Fordow uranium enrichment site, located south of Tehran, in addition to two other nuclear facilities in Isfahan and Natanz.
Iran subsequently launched limited strikes on U.S. military bases in Qatar and Iraq, although no casualties were reported, according to official sources. Following ten days of hostilities, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on June 24 that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between Iran and Israel, effectively pausing military operations on both sides.
