Iran’s delegate in response to the UAE: About the three islands

Iran’s delegate to the United Nations indicated the UAE’s call to Tehran to “end its occupation of the three Emirati islands, Tunb al-Kubra, Tunb al-Sughra and Abu Musa,” describing this issue as a result of a “misunderstanding.”
Takht Ravanchi said, “The UAE’s allegations about the three Iranian islands… are unfounded.”
He also added: “Iran reiterates its firm position on this issue and confirms that it does not recognize the existence of such a controversial issue between the two countries… the islands are an integral part of Iranian territory.”
The Iranian delegate continued, “Although Iran does not recognize the allegations about the three islands, the good-neighborly relations make us ready for bilateral talks with the UAE to end the misunderstanding on the issue.”
In a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, Minister of State in the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, renewed the call for Iran to “respect international law and the principles of good neighborliness, resolve disputes by peaceful means, and end its occupation of the three Emirati islands.”
