Wide-Scale Escalation in South Lebanon: Consecutive Israeli Threats Followed by Multiple Airstrikes
South Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley witnessed a significant military escalation over the past hours, marked by a series of Israeli threats followed by scattered airstrikes targeting buildings the Israeli army claims are used by Hezbollah.
The Israeli strikes targeted the towns of Jbaa and al-Majdal (Tyre district), Mahrouneh (Nabatieh district), and Baraachit (Bint Jbeil district) in South Lebanon, in addition to an airstrike on the al-Shaara heights in the eastern mountain range of Lebanon.
These attacks were preceded by Israeli military warnings issued by the army spokesperson, alleging that the targeted buildings contained Hezbollah infrastructure and calling on civilians to keep a distance of at least 300 meters.
Persistent Israeli Aerial Activity
Israeli drones have been continuously hovering over the skies of South Lebanon and extending toward Beirut’s southern suburbs. The low-altitude drone activity has persisted into the evening hours, indicating an expansion of reconnaissance operations to cover Lebanese airspace from the capital to the border.
Striking “Weapons Depots,” According to the Israeli Narrative
The Israeli army spokesperson later stated that today’s airstrikes targeted “several weapons depots,” which he claimed constitute a violation of existing understandings. The statement added that the Israeli army will continue operating to eliminate any perceived threat.
