Israeli Attorney General Boycotts Dismissal Session: “The Government Is Above the Law”

Israeli Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara described the government session convened to discuss her dismissal as an attempt to reinforce loyalty to the political leadership. In a letter sent during the session, she stated that the government seeks to place itself above the law.
Meanwhile, thousands of Israelis protested against the government’s move to dismiss the attorney general, especially after she had previously frozen a decision to remove Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar. Opponents of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accuse him and his far-right government of attempting to take full control of state institutions, including the judiciary.
