Jennifer Lawrence Talks Die My Love – How Her Pregnancy and Motherhood Shaped the Role

On Sunday morning, a press conference was held for the film Die My Love, following its world premiere at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, where it is competing in the official selection. The event featured the film’s lead actress and producer, Jennifer Lawrence.
Lawrence on the Emotional Challenge of the Role

During the conference, Lawrence spoke candidly about the major challenge she faced in portraying a complex psychological condition: postpartum depression. She explained that the most difficult part was returning to serious dramatic roles after an extended period of working in comedy.
Drawing from personal experience, Lawrence described the postpartum period as one of the most isolating and emotionally taxing phases in a woman’s life — a time when, in her words, one feels “like an alien,” overwhelmed by anxiety and solitude.
Motherhood and Its Impact on Her Art

Lawrence reflected on how motherhood fundamentally transformed her life. While acknowledging the difficulties of the experience, she emphasized that it sparked a deeper sense of creativity and emotional sensitivity — qualities that greatly enhanced her performance in the film.
She also revealed that she was five months pregnant during the shoot and credited pregnancy hormones with helping her access and express the film’s intense emotions with authenticity.
Also present at the press conference were co-star Robert Pattinson and director Lynne Ramsay, who shared insights into the filming process and the challenges faced by the cast and crew during production.
Die My Love continues to draw attention for its raw emotional depth and the deeply personal performance delivered by Lawrence.
