Lebanese Presidency Denies Statements Attributed to Aoun; Hezbollah Criticizes “Mechanism” Committee
The Lebanese Presidency denied that President Michel Aoun issued any new statement regarding Israeli military actions on the town of Bleda, affirming that the official position was released yesterday in a statement from the Information Office following his meeting with Army Commander General Rudolf Heikal.
The presidency clarified that reports in local media attributing additional comments to the president are incorrect, noting that the previous statement remains the sole official position issued on the matter.
Meanwhile, Lebanese Parliament member Hussein Al-Hajj Hassan condemned the recent Israeli escalation, stating that “Israel has not respected any provision of the ceasefire agreement,” and accused the “Mechanism” committee of being complicit in this escalation. Al-Hajj Hassan called for extensive diplomatic action and formal complaints regarding Israeli violations, noting that more than 4,500 breaches occurred over the past 11 months without effective follow-up by the Security Council.
Al-Hajj Hassan also praised President Aoun’s call for the Lebanese Army to respond to any incursions into Lebanese territory, emphasizing the importance of the army having independent military and political authority, and called for national unity to face the current security and political challenges.
