Lukaku injury puts Belgium in an embarrassing position

The Belgium coach said that Romelu Lukaku’s “irreplaceable” absence from the World Cup will force his team to change its way of playing, but the striker has not yet been confirmed, according to the team doctor.
Lukaku suffers from a hamstring injury after returning recently from an injury that kept him two months away, and there are doubts about his qualification to the finals, as Belgium begins its campaign against Canada on November 23.
As Christoph Sass, the Belgium national team doctor, described the latest injury as a “setback” and not a fatal blow to the player’s chances of participating in the World Cup.
The newspaper “NLH” also quoted Sass as saying: Things have not been resolved yet, but it is a setback for the player himself, his club and the Belgium national team.
Martinez also spoke last week about the importance of Lukaku in his team and how he occupies a number of offensive positions. Without Lukaku, Belgium will likely need to restructure their midfield and front line.
“In the Red Devils, he is irreplaceable,” Martinez told Neufsblad. Every national team has players that cannot be replaced. Look at Argentina with Messi, Croatia with Modric, Brozovic and Kovacic, Spain and Germany also have players like this. This is the way things go.
As and follow: with us Courtois, De Bruyne and Lukaku. You cannot replace any of them with one player. If they don’t play, we have to play differently. If Lukaku isn’t there, maybe we should play with more strikers.”
Inter Milan confirmed on Monday that Lukaku has a “hamstring strain” and will be monitored this week to confirm the extent of the injury.
The 29-year-old returned to the field last week and scored a goal in the 4-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League, and also participated as a substitute in the 3-0 victory over Sampdoria on Saturday.
